My Woes

So tonight this really weird thing happened.... I had free time. I had no homework, no plans, and literally nothing to do. So, I turned to my very dear friend "Netflix" and decided to watch the first recommended movie that looked interesting.

Turns out it was this one.

I'd never heard of it, and figured it would be a feel-good romantic comedy that would warm my soul or something. Or something. Instead it made me incredibly depressed about the fact that I'm single.
I hate when that happens.

The premise of the movie is this: scientists develop technology that can predict who you fall in love with, and they install a timer in everybody that counts down to the day they meet their soulmate. Once you make eye-contact with your "true love" both of your timers start beeping and you know you've found the person that you're going to spend the rest of your life with.
The main character is a 30 year old woman who is freaking out over the misfortune that her timer hasn't started counting down yet, due to the fact that her supposed "true love" has yet to get a timer.  Chaos ensues when she gets fed up with waiting and starts a passionate fling with a (very attractive) much younger man who doesn't have a timer.
Mostly, the ending sucked. But I won't give it away. You'll have to watch it.
(FYI there is one naughty part that you have to skip)

I'm not going to lie, I found the concept of the timer very appealing. Wouldn't it be so great to have not only a guarantee that you will find someone that will love you for the rest of your life, but also to be able to know exactly when they're coming? To not have to even worry about the possibility that you'll end up a bitter, loveless old spinster with nothing but cats and quilting to keep you company because you know that your perfect match is out there, just waiting to find you?
Maybe I'm just a silly love-hungry college girl who's sick of EVERYONE around her getting married when she hasn't even dated anyone in a year. Maybe I'm bitter, and lonely, and hopelessly pathetic about stuff like this, but I want a timer.
I want a guarantee that my someone's out there.
That they actually exist and I'm not just deluding myself with false hopes and naive expectations.

Get on it scientists!

A Little Sappy

Since I commute from Ogden to Lagoon, I spend a fair amount of my time sitting in my car. I don't really mind, I like my car. It's a little, green, Subaru Forester that has tons of hardcore mountain biking stickers on it. It always makes me laugh when people pass me and get all weirded out by the tiny ginger girl in the badass mountain biking car.
I'm not one of those weird silent drivers, when I'm in the car I'm listening to music.
I used to just listen to whatever is on the radio, but after I'd heard Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" for the 890497932093485'th time I decided I either had to change what I listened to...or kill Adele.

Fortunately for her, I just burned myself a bunch of random cd's and all was well.

On one of the cd's is a song that has become my new favorite song of all time. It is by one of my favorite bands: The Airborne Toxic Event. I think the lyrics to this song are just so sweet, so I'm going to post them for you to read.

They're good. I promise.

The Graveyard Near The House
By: The Airborne Toxic Event

The other day when we were walking by the graveyard near the house you asked me
if I thought we Would ever die.
And if life and love both fade so predictably,
we've made ourselves a kind of predictable lie.
So I pictured us like corpses
lying side by side in pieces
in some dark and lonely plot under a bough.
We looked so silly There all decomposed,
half turned to dust in tattered clothes,
though we probably look just as silly now.

Bye, bye, bye, all this dog-eared innocence.
I can't pretend that I can tell you what is going to happen next
 or how to be.
But you have no idea about me.
Do you?

It left me to wonder if people ever know each other
or just stumble around like strangers in the dark.
Because sometimes You seem so strange to me,
I must seem strange to you.
We're like two actors playing two parts.
Did you memorize your lines? 'Cause I did.
Here's the part where I get so mad.
I tell you that I can't forget the past.
You get so quiet now
And you seem somehow
like a lost and lonely child
and you just hope that the moment won't last.

Bye, bye, bye all this dogged innocence.
I can't pretend that I can tell you
what is going to happen next or how to be.
But you have no idea about me.
 Do you?

Still, there's always a way around.
There's something tying our feet to the ground.
A moment passed, we hear how it sounds.
And it seems a little less profound,
 like we're all
Going the same way down.

I'm just trying to write it all down.

I write songs, and you write letters.
We are tied like two in tethers,
and we talk and read and laugh and sleep at night in
Bed together.
And you wake in tears sometimes, I can see the thoughts flash across your eyes.
They say, “Darling will you be kind?
Will you be a good man and stay behind if I get old?”

Then the letters all flash through my head,
with the words that I was told
about the fading flesh of life and love,
The failures of the bold.
I can list each crippling fear like I'm reading from a will.

And I'll defy every one and love you still.
I will carry you with me up every hill.
And if you die before I die,
I'll carve your name out of the sky.
I'll fall asleep with your memory
and dream of where you lie.

It may be better to move on
and to let life just carry on
and I may be wrong. Still I'll try.

Because it's better to love whether you win or lose or die.
It's better to love and I will love you until I die.

I know that it's kind of morbid, and a little depressing at first, but I really really love this song. I hate songs that make life seem like this perfect fairy tale- and this one brings to light that life is hard sometimes. Even if you find someone you love more than anything, it can be hard. But it's also so incredibly worth it to make your love last.

I'm in kind of a sappy mood lately I guess, but I have been listening to this song nonstop.

I love it.

Moral of This Story: I'm a sucker for love songs.

I'm BACK

It's been a while. And I apologize. Remember how my life was super incredibly boring and I had nothing to do but blog and fiddle around on my guitar? Well, unfortunately, those days are long gone. I can barely even remember them now.

Basically, I have just been working my little ginger butt off trying to get enough money to pay my rent. I hate being grown up and having to pay for everything. It sucks.

Last week though, I got a bit of a break. I got my wisdom teeth out. So really it wasn't a break, just a different kind of torture. I was way freaked out to get them out, I've never had any other kind of surgery before and I hate needles and such. I know it sounds lame, but the part I was most freaked out for was them putting in my IV. Just thinking about it made me a little queasy. Once I got in the operating room, they told me they were going to put it in, so I looked away, and felt a teeny little prick in my arm. That was it! The IV was in and I was ready to have my mouth cut open and teeth ripped out of my head! I really don't remember anything after the IV until about noon the next day, from what I hear, I slept a lot. Spoke a lot of gibberish, and was very entertaining. All of last week is pretty blurry, that's what Loritab does to you I guess!

I like Loritab.

Probably a little too much :)

Today I had to go back to work, and it almost killed me.
Going from being a drugged up vegetable to a hardworking citizen is not a fun transition. Not at all. I only worked a six hour shift and I barely made it through.
Thank goodness I don't have to work again until Wednesday.

Other than that, not much has happened in my life. It's been pretty boring. As any college-age-girl-living-at-home-in-utah knows very well.

I miss Logan. I miss my roomies. I miss people.
The only people I get to talk to anymore are Bulgarians; which are awesome- I just miss my college peep's.

Moral of This Story: DOn't get your wisdom teeth out. Keep your wisdom.

Oh the Cleverness of Me!

As you all well know, I have spent almost the entirety of my summer jobless, and alone at my house. This usually just results in me staying in my pajamas all day watching Korean boy-band music videos and eating chocolate chips. I lead a charmed life.

Yesterday though, I decided that enough was enough! I was going to take back my life and do something productive for once! (This sentence for some reason makes me picture myself in front of a fluttering American Flag while the nation cheers me on. Wow, that would be really cool...maybe I should buy a big flag...) I was going to learn how to fly and then save the world from Lex Luther, but I just didn't have the time- so I got all crafty instead!

I don't know if  this is just the estrogen smothered way of gaining satisfaction from working with your hands, but I love doing little crafts and such. My mom used to be huge into scrapbooking and I always loved spending the days helping her put all the pages together and making them all cute. Sadly, no one but me has time to do anything like that anymore... so I just have to do it myself.

So yesterday, I let my creative juices flow, and ended up with two masterpieces that I am very proud of. You might think they're lame, but no offense: I don't really care...

So. Here they are!

Number One:
I was sitting in my room and I noticed that I had quite the collection of movie tickets on my walls. Really, I had like 50 of them up there. I decided that they looked really tacky just sitting on my wall like that, and I was thinking of different ways to make them look incredibly less tacky and incredibly more awesome. This is what I came up with:

Mock it if you will, but I think it looks pretty cool!

Number Two:
I have a lot of necklaces and I always get really frustrated because they get all tangled together, or I misplace one, and all other manners of jewelry related horror. I found a very large piece of framed corkboard and ransacked my mother's ribbon drawer to create this one. (I am even prouder of this one than the last, mostly because it's super cute, and even more mostly, because the ribbon has sheep on it.)

Isn't that just handy? I hot glued mini clothes-pins to the ribbon and now I can use them to hold all of my necklaces! I felt so ingenious.

SHEEP RIBBON!!!! AH!!!!

After all success of my first two creations, I have decided to do many more such projects over the summer. On my list are: A super cute apron, A college scrapbook, and whatever else I can come up with! If you guys have any ideas, or have any questions about these ones: I would love to hear from you!!!

I HAVE HAD IT!!

Ok. I need to rant for a little bit.

I am not trying to toot my own horn in any way, but I am a smart, funny, driven, attractive young lady that is an excellent swing dancer. And a ginger. Why is it, that in the seven months I have been at Utah State I have only been on TWO DATES! What the heck??!?! What is wrong with all the men in Logan??????

I have friends at different colleges that have been through three different relationships by now. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH LOGAN???????????

I have guys that are my friends. But romance? I have nothing. NOTHING!

I'm not saying that I need a man. I am happy with who I am, and where I'm at in my life right now. But I feel like I'm missing out on a valuable part of my college experience. Plus, I really like cuddling with men, and holding hands, and flirting. And right now, I'm not doing any of that.

Moral of this story. MEN IN LOGAN SUCK!!!
